Something A Little Different

Alright so my first legitimate post on this blog... lets see how it goes.

Ive been playing around with inkle/tablet weaving lately and I really enjoy it. I've also been spending a lot of time on pinterest looking at what other people are doing. There is some pretty amazing stuff out there. The other day I was having some fun with this:  http://www.carolingianrealm.info/PatternGenerator.php which is a pretty awesome tool if you haven't messed with it. Its simple but gives a good idea of what an inkle pattern will weave up like. Offset grid and all that.

So I came up with a pattern I actually wanted to try and started looking around for something similar already finished. I can't seem to find anything exactly like this, but i'm sure with the limitations of the inkle loom, someone else has done it, and probably better. And I do know that a ton more is possible through card weaving, pick up weaving, etc. but I liked this because its really easy and still looks neat

The idea was a row of daisies, which I hope you can tell.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is enough contrast between the green of the stems and the blue background.

I used DMC perle cotton #5
     B5200 - White (petals)
     725 - Yellow (flower center)
     800 - Blue (sky)
     801 - Brown (ground)
     703 - Green (stems)
     414 - Dark Blue-ish? (weft)

I tried to go with a weft that would blend in as much as possible with the ground and sky. This color worked alright but I think the weft could be hidden much better if a darker color were used for the background - maybe even some type of variegated, night-time looking color. I think the flowers would definitely stand out better. Or even if the sky were just black.
But overall i think you can tell what is going on and I like it enough to try and finish it. The pattern is clearer in person than in these pictures. Sorry about that. The perle cotton just wants to be too shiny for the camera.

I may use it for bookmarks, a keychain, a dog collar, or some other such thing. It could make an interesting hatband...

Im going to throw in a few other ideas i thought might be neat to try. These were just snipped from the pattern generator website as I was making them. Feel free to try these or change them up and let me know how it goes.

This is the one I used:

I think a darker background would look much better...

Maybe with flower pots? Do those even look like pots?

Weird colors are always an option

Pencils

Or maybe a picket fence at night. Possibly add in a dashed line
of glow-in-the-dark "stars" along the top?

Anyway, if this gets someone thinking then I am happy. Try to come up with some other thin, repeatable, picture type weavings. :)

I will leave you with a picture of my inkle loom that I got last year from a thrift store for $2. I love it.

Have a wonderful night.
